CHOOSING A SUSTAINABLE LEGACY
Fairmount Memorial Association is pleased to provide the first natural or 'green' burial ground in Eastern Washington and the Inland Northwest.
Green burial funerals provide families with a rich, meaningful, and healing experience while furthering legitimate environmental and societal aims such as protecting worker health, reducing carbon emissions, conserving natural resources, and preserving habitat.
GREEN CONSIDERATIONS
The Green Burial Council is responsible for the requirements used to evaluate the carbon footprint and environmental impact of practices that define the standards for green burial.
There are four primary primary areas that they have defined that are critical for green burial:
non-disruptive interment
A final resting place that minimizes disruption to the natural environment, restricts materials that generate high carbon emmissions, and is designed for minimal carbon generating maintenance.
non-toxic preparation
Avoids or minimizes the use of materials and processes that are harmful to the environment while allowing for natural decomposition of the body. Formaldehyde-based embalming is not allowed.
absence
of a vault
Green burial avoids the use of the concrete vault used to protect a traditional casket or urn when buried in the ground. The process of vault manufacture increases carbon emmissions.
organic container
Containers for green burial selected for both their minimal carbon emissions during creation as well as their ability to allow for. natural decomposition.
NON DISRUPTIVE INTERMENT
FOREST GROVE at RIVERSIDE MEMORIAL PARK
Forest Grove at Riverside Memorial Park allows families the ability to provide a final resting place for their loved ones in a sustainable and earth friendly manner. All the products used at Forest Grove are 100% natural and/or 100% biodegradable, allowing the grove to maintain in its natural state. Our team utilizes earth friendly sustainable methods for each burial and cremation placement to minimize disturbances to the natural ecosystem.
Forest Grove at Riverside Memorial Park is the first dedicated Green Burial grounds in Eastern Washington.
To ensure sustainability and to minimize our impact on the environment, Green Burial uses traditional methods for excavation and maintenance.
Additionally, monuments and markers make of natural stone avoid the environmental impact of manufactured markers.
We have combined the most popular options into our Forest Grove package. However, if you prefer, you are free to customize or personalize a final resting place at Forest Grove to suit your needs and values.
